Persuading someone isn’t about putting rational ideas in front of them, it’s about changing the minds of the people they trust. Those people can then effectively relay that information to that person.
Everyone’s political and ideological beliefs are grounded in the media outlets, personalities, and friends that they trust. They have little to do with whether the ideas they believe in have been challenged or not.
